FAQ – Professional Art Auction

What is a professional art auction?

It is a timed event designed to sale artworks to art collectors, art enthusiasts, and typical art buyers by a trained and credentialed auctioneer.

  • Sales information from art auctions are used to evaluate the value of artworks. In some cases, artworks sell for higher prices during an auction than they do in galleries. This is because the auction attracts a larger diverse market.

  • Artists’ reputations largely effect the value of their art. Artists who are known in the auctions are more likely to have a known reputation in the art world. This increases the chances of their artworks maintaining and/or increasing in value.

It IS NOT the same as ebay or etsy.  While some feel they have lucrative sales on these platforms,  these platforms are not typically recognized in the professional arts, and therefore typically do not assist artists with increasing provenance information or sustainable value.
